Brian Moore Names Prospective Cabinet Members
Sunday, 2 November 2008

Jeremiah Wright Tapped for UN Ambassador

Spring Hill, Florida -- Responding to recent speculation regarding potential Cabinet members in an Obama Administration, Brian P. Moore, the Socialist Party's candidate for President, announced his own "Shadow Cabinet" in a statement released early Sunday. Among other individuals that Moore said he would approach about serving in his administration in the unlikely event that he is swept into office on Tuesday, the little-known Socialist nominee said he would ask the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Democratic candidate Barack Obama's former minister and mentor, to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

Moore said that his ideal administration would also include individuals such as former California congressman Paul N. McCloskey as Secretary of State and former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel, a longtime critic of the military-industrial complex, as Secretary of Defense. The former Alaska lawmaker, who unsuccessfully sought the Democratic and Libertarian Party presidential nominations earlier this year, recently co-authored A Political Odyssey: The Rise of American Militarism and One Man's Fight to Stop It, published by Seven Stories Press. The Socialist candidate said that he would also ask retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel Karen Kwiatkowski to serve as Under Secretary of Defense for Policy... read more.

State Rep. Candidate Takes WJR's Frank Beckmann to Task on the Question 'Socialism'
Tuesday, 21 October 2008

DETROIT -- Dually-nominated Socialist/Green State Representative candidate Matt Erard (53rd District -- Ann Arbor) was invited to be a live, in-studio guest yesterday on the program of WJR-760AM's mid-morning radio personality Frank Beckmann. During his portion of the show, Erard answered attempted challenges on air from WJR callers, in addition to those from the host. Beckmann's two other guests on yesterday's program, following Erard, were Mitt Romney and 'Joe the plumber' Wurzelbacher.

The inevitably ensuing debate between the conservative talk radio host and socialist candidate, which predictably centered on the topic of socialism, demonstrated a remarkable divergence over even the most foundational premises for an objective understanding of either socialism or capitalism; both conceptually, and as they relate to modern conditions... read more.

Erard Campaign Calls for Immediate Passage of the Michigan Moratorium Act
Wednesday, 8 October 2008

In the wake of the U.S. Congress' recent maneuver to shift responsibility for the banking industry's bad-faith lending practices to working U.S. tax payers, Matt Erard, Socialist/Green candidate for 53rd District State Representative, renewed his call upon the Michigan State Legislature to immediately pass the Michigan Moratorium Act, which would impose an emergency moratorium on all home foreclosures throughout the state of Michigan.

The act was introduced earlier this year as Senate Bill 1306 by State Senator Hansen Clarke and as House Bill 5857 by State Representative Shanelle Jackson. The Senate version of the bill would establish a two-year moratorium on foreclosures, while the House version would establish a one-year moratorium. Erard contended that it is imperative that legislators ensure that final version of the bill reflect the language of the Senate version, as such relief would need to last for two years, at the very least, to provide an essential window of opportunity for the tens of thousands of Michigan families currently facing foreclosure actions.

Pointing to the extensive research conducted by the Michigan Moratorium NOW Coalition, whose grassroots organizing efforts led to the introduction of the two bills, such a moratorium already has an established precedent in Michigan. In the 1930s, Michigan was among 25 states to pass a five year moratorium on foreclosures. Not only was the bill successfully enacted by the Michigan State Legislature, but was upheld as Constitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court... read more.

Both lawsuits are expected to be filed early next week.

Moore/Alexander Expect to Be On a Dozen States
Monday, 1 September 2008

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

We are expecting to be on the presidential ballot in as many as a dozen states by Election Day. At least two of the states we are already on will be crucial battleground states (Ohio and Florida), where we could conceivably poll the difference between our major-party rivals in an extremely close race. Plus, we will be conducting "write-in" campaigns in an additional ten to fifteen states.

We have already gained official ballot status in the states of Vermont, Colorado, New Jersey, Ohio and Iowa; and we expect to be certified in Florida, Louisiana and Tennessee later this week. Our presidential campaign also expects to successfully gain ballot access, if we can collect the necessary signatures, in the additional states of Wisconsin (2,000), Minnesota (2,000), Mississippi (1,000) and Louisiana (9 notarized electors in 7 congressional districts). The deadlines in those states take place over the next ten days.

The clock is ticking and we desperately need your help... read more.

Socialists also gain ballot access in Iowa; expect Tennessee and Florida to Follow

Columbus, Ohio: Not since Norman Thomas ran for president on the Socialist Party ticket in 1932 has there ever been another Socialist Party candidate on the state of Ohio's presidential ballots in the ensuing 76 years, covering 18 presidential elections.

That consecutive string was broken today by the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio Eastern Division. Magistrate Judge Edmund A. Sargus, Jr. ordered the state of Ohio "to place the Socialist Party and its candidates on the 2008 general election ballot for the state of Ohio"... read more.

Brian Loses to Nader at Peace and Freedom Party Convention
Wednesday, 6 August 2008

Brian Fails to Convince Peace and Freedom Party Members to Remain Loyal to Socialist Principles Over Popular Vote for Independent Candidate Ralph Nader.

Despite Socialist Party presidential candidate Brian Moore's plea for Socialist principles loyalty, slightly over 50% of the PFP delegates voted for the Nader/Gonzalez ticket on the first ballot and effectively ended the PFP's party's nomination process.

The Peace and Freedom Party, who identify themselves as a socialist party, was offered ballot name status by Independent Nader in the states of Utah and Iowa, with more states to follow said the Independent candidate. Nader promised to promote the PFP nationwide, offering a plan two days before the PFP convention promising they would promote the PFP cause everywhere... read more.

On Friday, July 25, 2008, Socialist Party presidential candidate Brian Moore will arrive by airplane in the state of Wisconsin to initiate the Socialist Party's ballot access petition drive at its annual picnic at Kern Park #1 on Saturday, July 26th, from 12 noon to 4 PM, in Milwaukee.

The presidential candidate also will visit the bread lines at St. Benedict the Moor church either Friday or Saturday evening around 5 PM, (9th Street) and he will travel the Milwaukee bus system in light of its recent cutbacks and the high gas prices and souring economy.

Moore has also faxed county sheriff David A. Clarke requesting a tour of the penal facilities with an extraordinary request to stay overnight in the facility as well. The candidate slept overnight in Lorton prison in 1986 when he ran against then DC Mayor Marian Barry, whose jurisdiction used the federal penal facilities in Lorton, VA.

Moore, a former Franciscan seminarian, in an order dedicated to serving the poor, plans to attend early Saturday or Sunday morning Mass as an integral part of his common good philosophy. And finally, Moore has e-mailed the Milwaukee Adult Baseball League, requesting an opportunity to practice with a team Saturday morning or evening, depending on a team's schedule. Moore, a former college baseball player, is a left-handed first baseman and bats left-handed as well.

We have already qualified in the states of Vermont and Colorado, and we have targeted 20 other states for ballot access status by no later than September 9th, less than two months away!

Because of the time constraints, and limited resources, we need to compensate some of our volunteers to work extra hours, as well as hire professional petitioners, by paying them per signature, and in some cases, cover our volunteers' gas and motel expenses.

Deadline dates for signatures, or convention elections, in each state vary, but they are due in the following targeted states... read more.

SOCIALISTS GAIN BALLOT ACCESS IN COLORADO FOR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

New Hampshire Denies Socialist Ballot Due to "Trap" Law to Ambush 3rd Parties

Spring Hill, Florida: Colorado's Deputy Director of Elections, Wayne Munster, confirmed today by e-mail to Socialist Party Presidential candidate Brian Moore, that Moore and his Vice-Presidential running mate, Stewart Alexander, "will be on the Colorado General Election ballot."

This was a far cry from Moore's experience in New Hampshire this week when he was denied ballot access on Wednesday by the Secretary of State's office despite a presidential candidate petition deadline of August 6th. New Hampshire is one of few states in the union that require one deadline for signatures and another small requirement to register to apply for candidacy two months ahead of time (by Monday, June 13, 2008). FLORIDA CATHOLIC BISHOP CHALLENGED ABOUT CHURCH'S NATIONALISM AND SILENCE ON IRAQ WAR
Monday, 26 May 2008

Spring Hill, Florida: Socialist Party USA presidential nominee, Brian Moore, e-mailed a strongly-worded letter Memorial Day to St. Petersburg, Florida Diocese's Catholic prelate, Bishop Robert Lynch, protesting the local diocese's "tendency toward nationalism" and its' "silence on the Iraq war."

Moore attended 11 AM Memorial Weekend mass on Sunday, May 25th, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in his hometown of Spring Hill, Florida, only to hear the parish deacon read off Memorial Day prayers of the faithful "for [just] American soldiers serving the cause of peace in Iraq."

Moore wrote to the Bishop on Monday, Memorial Day, that "no mention was made of the innocent Iraqi civilian deaths," estimated by various groups of between 250,000 to over one million dead. BRIAN MOORE, SOCIALIST, INVITES PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES TO DEBATE
Wednesday, 14 May 2008

Several weeks ago the Moore / Alexander '08 campaign extended written invitations to other presidential candidates (Ralph Nader (Independent), Cynthia McKinney (Green Party), and Dr. Chuck Baldwin (Constitution Party Nominee) to participate in several planned community television debates in Florida, as well as to organize a tour of debates together in select regions of the country.

We have heard from the McKinney and Baldwin campaigns, but so far nothing from the Nader campaign. Ironically, Mr. Nader reported on his website yesterday (May 13) of his own expected debate with Barack Obama based on the Democrat's response to Tim Russert's question in a May 4th interview, stating that he was willing to debate with "any of my opponents about what this country means, what makes it great... in order to further the country's interest."

Thus, we are assuming that Mr. Nader will feel the same way about our earlier invitation for alternative presidential candidates to debate each other; or, better yet, to participate with Mr. Nader in his expected invite to debate Mr. Obama.

Socialist Dwain Reynolds for Michigan State Board of Education
Wednesday, 23 April 2008

Middleville, MI -- Socialist Dwain Reynolds III announced his candidacy today to run for Michigan's State Board of Education. Reynolds has spent the last few months traveling throughout Michigan in preparation for his campaign. "I have talked to countless residents of our "forgotten state" and have learned many things. Most of all I have learned that the residents of Michigan (students, parents, employers, employees, etc...) are ready for a progressive change. Ready for new ideas; geared up for their children to finally have what they deserve from their government. Continuously I see students and young adults who have lost hope and are now prepared to believe that things can progress for the better. They know that they are not represented in current mainstream politics (as well as the rest of the working class, middle class, working poor) and are ready to have someone who cares about their welfare standing up for them as well as their parents, teachers, and friends. People are no longer saying "I hope things will get better" instead they have replaced it with "things will be better and we're going to make sure of it before it's too late". A True Peace Candidate for Congress
Friday, 1 February 2008

Socialist Party congressional candidate Todd Vachon (CT Second District) has been gaining some recognition from online peace activists. He was recently selected by PeaceCandidates.com as a "true peace candidate for congress", and has also been highlighted on Emcees4Peace.org as a hip-hop activist and candidate for peace. Since the Democrats have done little to nothing to bring an end to the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan the minor party candidates are really gaining traction on this issue. Could this be the year of a critical mass? If enough people vote for what they really want and not just the "less of two evils" we might see some actual progress.

Freedom Socialist Party Endorses SP-USA Candidates in PFP Primary
Sunday, 27 January 2008

In an open letter to their supporters on 26 January, the Los Angeles branch of the Freedom Socialist Party endorsed both Brian Moore and Stewart Alexander for the Peace and Freedom presidential primary on 5 Feburary, and called on people to register and vote Peace and Freedom in order to keep "a socialist alternative at the polls". The FSP argues for a vote for either Brian Moore or Stewart Alexander on the basis that they "support an immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq, full amnesty for undocumented immigrants, a $15 per hour minimum wage, healthcare for all, abortion rights, same-sex marriage, and steps toward a socialist economy". Specifically, the letter highlights voting for Alexander, though votes for either Brian or Stewart will help get the ticket on the ballot in California.

The Freedom Socialist Party is a Trotskyist and socialist-feminist political party based out of Seattle. In the past they have run their own candidates, as well as endorsing candidates of other socialist parties that they feel are most in line with their principles and goals. In addition to Brian Moore and Stewart Alexander, the FSP have also recommended voting for Gloria La Riva of the Party for Socialism and Liberation in the PFP primary.

Socialist Presidential Ticket on Ballot in Vermont
Tuesday, 22 January 2008

The Socialist Party presidential ticket of Brian Moore and Stewart Alexander gained ballot access in its first state on Monday, 21 January, when campaign volunteers in Vermont submitted more than 1,100 signatures to get Moore in the Liberty Union Party's presidential primary. Moore will be the only candidate competing for the Liberty Union Party's nomination. Since the primary election is binding, this guarantees that he and Alexander will appear as the Liberty Union ticket in the November general election.

The Liberty Union Party is a nonviolent socialist party in Vermont, which shares a number of members with the Socialist Party, and nominated the SP presidential tickets in 1980, 1988, 1996 and 2000.

Although Vermont is the first state where socialist ballot access has been officially confirmed, ballot access efforts are underway in several other states. The Moore/Alexander campaign hopes to gain ballot access in approximately twenty states where barriers are not too steep. Contact the campaign at or the Socialist Party's Campaign Clearinghouse at for more information about ballot access in your area.
