Socialist Dwain Reynolds for Michigan State Board of Education Middleville, MI -- Socialist Dwain Reynolds III announced his candidacy today to run for Michigan's State Board of Education. Reynolds has spent the last few months traveling throughout Michigan in preparation for his campaign. "I have talked to countless residents of our "forgotten state" and have learned many things. Most of all I have learned that the residents of Michigan (students, parents, employers, employees, etc...) are ready for a progressive change. Ready for new ideas; geared up for their children to finally have what they deserve from their government. Continuously I see students and young adults who have lost hope and are now prepared to believe that things can progress for the better. They know that they are not represented in current mainstream politics (as well as the rest of the working class, middle class, working poor) and are ready to have someone who cares about their welfare standing up for them as well as their parents, teachers, and friends. People are no longer saying "I hope things will get better" instead they have replaced it with "things will be better and we're going to make sure of it before it's too late". These people are the reason I am running; the reason I have hope for a better tomorrow.". This year, Reynolds will appear on the ballot as a Green Party candidate and will be campaigning as both a Socialist Party and Green Party candidate. He received the Socialist Party's nomination to run on February 2nd and intends to formally receive the nomination of the Green Party at the upcoming Green Party of Michigan State Nominating Convention. "It's truly extraordinary; my campaign will have the support of two parties working together committed to challenging the corporate politics that dominate Michigan." Reynolds states that our education is one of the most essential components of living in an ever changing, free, democratic society. In its ideal form it allows all citizens to develop to their maximum potential and make informed decisions that will affect them throughout their lives. However, our system is broken and affecting our society, economy, youth, households and future in various negative ways. "It's not hard to see the atrocities that are occurring within our educational system. Michigan students are overwhelmingly deprived of learning supplies and classroom overcrowding has become the norm. Our teachers are underpaid while Post-secondary education costs continue to rise at an alarming rate eliminating the opportunity for many Michigan residents to receive a college education. Furthermore the standardized curriculum is de-skilling our teachers, adding to the overcrowding problems that already exists, and stealing valuable knowledge from our youth." Reynolds campaign is among five Socialist Party campaigns announced in Michigan thus far. Jean Treacy of Marquette (www.treacy2008.org) and Matt Erard of Ann Arbor (www.erard2008.org) are seeking the joint nomination of the Green Party of Michigan for 1st District US Representative and 53rd State House District Representative. The Socialist Party's ticket of Brian Moore for President and Stewart Alexander for Vice President is exploring options to qualify for the Michigan ballot this year and is filing for Official Write-In Status in Michigan as a back-up.
