Candidate Calls War Crimes in America More Egregious Than Prostitution

Says Prostitution, Poverty and Crime are Result of Economic Slavery Under Capitalism

Spring Hill, Florida: Socialist Party presidential candidate Brian Moore lambasted the nation's political leaders and the press and media for its frenzied hypocrisy over the Governor Eliot Spitzer scandal in New York while they remain scandalously silent on the federal government's illegal war in Iraq and Afghanistan and growing violations of U.S. citizens' constitutional rights and freedoms at home.

The minor party candidate promoting socialism in this year's election, went further saying the U.S. Congress and press "should be ashamed of the economic system that creates and fosters prostitution in this country." The Socialist candidate said his political party wants to radically alter the economy so as to eliminate such actions by those in need.

Moore chastised the Spitzer critics and naysayers for "remaining silent on the more egregious acts" of an illegal war, use of torture on prisoners, violation of the Geneva Accords, crimes against humanity, loss of Habeas Corpus, warrantless surveillance of Americans by the U.S. government, spying on American citizens and other deprivations of their constitutional rights.

Socialist Moore said that while most prostitution occurs in the streets and in backroom hotels in America, even the high class callgirls that Mr. Spitzer partook with, still "reflects poorly on the American economic system" that these political leaders defend, embrace and intimately (excuse the pun) support.

The Socialist nominee said that The Socialist Party USA's original founder, Eugene V. Debs, in 1904, exclaimed then that economic slavery [under capitalism] is the world's greatest curse....and that "poverty,.... prostitution..... and crime are its inevitable results." As far back as 1879, when Debs was a City Clerk in Terra Haute, Indiana, prostitution was legal within the boundaries of the city's District area, but Debs sense of egalitarianism extended to the women in the brothels. As city clerk he refused to assess fines on these working women because pimps and male customers weren't also being fined for their involvement in the prostitution trade.

2008 Socialist Presidential candidate Moore said that while Eliot Spitzer was hypocritical himself in his lifestyle as both governor and as a father and husband, "his actions pale in light of the more egregious acts of war and constitutional violations that our country is participating in." Moore added that "the real hypocrites are all those self-righteous politicians in New York and Washington, DC who are crowing about an opposing politician's downfall on a personal sexual matter while they cannot even see the more fatalistic spots in their own eyes."
