SOCIALIST PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE HELPS PEACE GROUP RAISE MONEY FOR ABUSED WOMAN'S SHELTER AND PROTEST OF $500 BILLION WAR 5th Anniversary of War Commemorations Planned for March 19th Congressional Visits and March 22nd Bushnell Veteran's National Cemetery Vigil Weeki Wachee, Florida: Socialist Party presidential candidate Brian Moore helped organize 13 members of The NatureCoast Coalition for Peace and Justice Saturday, in west central Florida, to demonstrate against the $500 Billion Iraq War. Simultaneously, in honor of International Woman's Day, the peace group then followed up its protest by sponsoring a breakfast that raised $250 for The Dawn Center, an abused women's program in Hernando County, Florida. 15 people attended the breakfast, and $160 was raised from the participants, and $90 from the Coalition itself. Moore said that one of the ongoing themes of the protest group, from its outset five years ago, has been the "unnecessary waste" of billions of American dollars on an unnecessary and illegal war, "and how domestic services and the nation's public works and social needs are being adversely affected." The peace group also is joining forces with a coalition of organizations to protest the 5th Anniversary of the Iraq War on Wednesday, March 19th. They will march on U.S. Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite's office at the Brooksville Courthouse, from 11 AM to 1 PM that day. Then they will visit U.S. Senator Bill Nelson's office from 4 to 6 PM at the Federal Courthouse in Tampa. Moore, who is also Chair of the Peace group, said that The NatureCoast Coalition is also planning an additional 5th year anniversary event by holding a commemoration of the Florida War dead which will be held inside the Veteran's National Cemetery in Bushnell. The presidential candidate has arranged with the Veterans Affairs Cemetery Director a date of Saturday, March 22nd, from 12 noon to 1 PM, for their action. Saturday was International Woman's Day, Moore said, and the Peace Coalition "decided to make a small gesture of its social commitment to women in need in the community." ---END--- |
